NaKniSweMo (na-nee-Swee-mo) stands for National Knit-a-Sweater-Month!
Birthed from the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) community, where writers sit down to write 50,000 words for the month of November, NaKniSweMo became a challenge in the knitting community to knit 50,000 stitches in a month. Basically, you have a month to take on a big project and challenge yourself to do something you may not have thought possible, before you think better of it!
We will be starting our NaKniSweMo challenge November 1st. You can find the rules and prize info below.
Rules and Prize Info:
1. You can use any yarn, even from stash, but it must have been purchased from Woven Art.
2. You can use any pattern - crochet or knit - in any size (child and baby-sized count!) But remember, this is supposed to be a challenge for YOU.
3. You can swatch before November 1st, but you cannot start the sweater before November 1st.
4. Sweater must be finished by November 30th.
5. Multiple entries are allowed, just fill out this form for each entry.
6. Submit a photo of your finished project to wovenartshop@gmail.com with "NaKniSweMo" as your subject heading, OR post on Instagram and BOTH tag the @wovenartshop account AND use hashtag #NaKniSweMoWAYS24.
7. Each finished project gets you an entry to a drawing to win a $150 Woven Art gift certificate!
Never made a sweater before? Never made a sweater in a month before? There are some simple things you can do to make your goal more attainable!
- If you are newer to knitting or crochet, choose a pattern with construction you understand, and a simple stitch.
- Use a DK-weight or heavier yarn - bigger yarn means bigger needles means bigger stitches means done faster! (Want to use fingering weight yarn? You do you, boo!)
- If you are more experienced, try a smaller yarn, a new construction technique, a new stitch pattern, or even steaking!
- Be sure to swatch! Nothing is more demoralizing than realizing your sweater is ten times too big or itty bitty small because you didn't take the time to swatch. Ripping out because of gauge issues wastes more time than making a swatch. We are here to help you! Feel free to bring in your swatch and we will measure it for you!
